Radio Vampiro w/ Pope & Dracaena

In the first half of the show you can hear Pope from Japan playing her favorite cumbia records and sharing with us her influences as a DJ and the way she feels about playing cumbia records in Japan.

In the second half you can hear Dracaena playing some jazz infuced Salsa burners.

*Pertenecer a través de la musica*

Dracaena es una coleccionista y DJ colombiana que reside en Berlín. Proveniente de Cali, Colombia, mejor conocida como la capital de la Salsa, sus sonidos y selecciones ahondan en este género y sus influencias, rastreando sus orígenes y desarrollo a través del tiempo y el espacio. En este caso, Dracaena explora la noción de pertenencia a una comunidad diaspórica, encontrando un sentido de hogar a través de sonidos y encuentros musicales, conectando con la tierra tanto individual como colectivamente junto a otros individuos diaspóricos, y llevando los sonidos de nuestros orígenes a espacios a los que a menudo se nos ha dicho que no pertenecemos del todo. Se trata de una invitación a contemplar la naturaleza y los procesos a través de los cuales se forma el "nosotros" colectivo.

Dracaena is a Colombian collector and DJ based in Berlin. Hailing from Cali, Colombia, known as the capital of Salsa, her sounds and selections delve into this genre and its influences, tracing its origins and development across time and space. In this instance, Dracaena explores the notion of belonging within a diasporic community, finding a sense of home through sounds and musical encounters, connecting with the land both individually and collectively alongside other diasporic individuals, and bringing the sounds of our origins to spaces where we've often been told we don't fully belong. This serves as an invitation to contemplate the nature and processes through which the collective 'we' is formed.
